What Study Parrot stores, what leaves your phone, and what we never do with it.
Effective November 4, 2026.
Study Parrot is an iPhone app published by Preston Research LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Study Parrot app and this website, studyparrot.app.
The short version
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your sign-in email, your study plan, and your study sessions.
- The app has no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDKs, and no AI services. (This website uses Google Analytics; see This website.)
- We never sell your data or share it for advertising.
- Weekly reports go only to the parent email addresses you enter.
- You can ask us to delete everything at any time.
Stored on your iPhone
Your plan lives on your device: your weekly availability, activities and target hours, the week grid, focus-timer settings, study sessions, and points and streaks. Your sign-in token is stored in the iOS Keychain. Uninstalling the app removes this data from your phone.
Sent to our servers
To sign you in, keep your progress, and send weekly reports, the app sends the following to our servers on Amazon Web Services in the United States:
- Account: your email address, a display name (from Sign in with Apple or set in the app), the anonymous user identifier Apple provides with Sign in with Apple, and your time zone (so reports go out at the right time).
- Parent emails: up to five email addresses you choose to add for the weekly report.
- Plan summary: activity names and types, test tags (SAT, ACT, PSAT, or course), weekly target and scheduled minutes, and your points and streak totals.
- Study sessions: the activity, scheduled and actual start times, end time, planned minutes, focus periods completed, whether the block was finished and started on time, and points earned.
Our servers also keep standard operational logs for up to 30 days to diagnose problems.
We send email through Amazon Simple Email Service from studyparrot.app addresses:
- Sign-in codes if you sign in with email. Codes expire after 10 minutes and are then deleted.
- Weekly reports to the parent addresses you added, every Sunday evening, or right away when you tap “Send report now”. A report contains your plan and progress for the week. You can remove a parent address in the app at any time.
We don’t send marketing email.
Notifications
Study reminders are scheduled on your device as local notifications. We don’t use push notifications, and no notification data is sent to us.
Who we share data with
We don’t sell, rent, or trade personal information. The only outside companies involved are the service providers that run the app for us under contract:
- Amazon Web Services hosts our servers and database, and sends email.
- Apple handles Sign in with Apple and App Store distribution under Apple’s privacy policy.
We may disclose information if required by law.
Teens and children
Study Parrot is designed for teenagers. It isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account and study data while your account exists. To delete your account and all data stored on our servers, email info@prestonresearch.com from the address you signed in with, or include that address in your message. We’ll delete it within 30 days and confirm by email. Database backups that contain deleted data expire on their own within 35 days.
You can also ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, the same way.
Security
Data travels between the app and our servers over HTTPS and is encrypted at rest on AWS. Access is limited to what’s needed to run the service.
This website
This section covers the studyparrot.app website only. Everything above about the app still applies: the Study Parrot app itself has no analytics or tracking.
The website uses Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to understand how visitors use it, such as which pages are viewed and how people arrive. Google may set cookies and collect information like your IP address, browser and device type, and pages visited. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Our hosting provider (Amazon CloudFront) also handles standard request information, such as IP address and browser type, to deliver pages. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date above. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
